“Genesis 17:7, “And I will establish My COVENANT between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting, solemn pledge, to be a God to you and to your posterity after you” (AMP)
“COVENANT” = “Berit” (beh-reet) Strongs #1285: A Covenant, Compact, Pledge, Treaty, Agreement.
This is one of the Most Theologically Important Words in the Bible, Appearing More Than 250 Times in the Old Testament Alone!
A “Berit” may be made between Individuals, between a King and His People, or by God with His People.
Here in Genesis 17:7, God’s Irrevocable Pledge is that He Will be God to Abraham and His Descendants Forever!
The Greatest Provision of the Abrahamic Covenant, this is the Foundation Stone of Israel’s Eternal Relationship to God, a Truth Affirmed by:
David: (2 Samuel 7:24, “And You have established for Yourself Your people Israel to be Your people forever, and You, Lord, became their God” AMP)
God Himself: (Jeremiah 33:24-26, “You’ve heard foreigners insult my people by saying, “The Lord chose Israel and Judah, but now he has rejected them, and they are no longer a nation.” Jeremiah, I WILL NEVER BREAK MY AGREEMENT with the day and the night or let the sky and the earth stop obeying my commands. IN THE SAME WAY, I WILL NEVER REJECT THE DESCENDANTS OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND JACOB OR BREAK MY PROMISE THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS HAVE A DESCENDANT OF DAVID AS THEIR KING. I will be kind to my people Israel, and they will be successful again.” CEV)
Apostle Paul: (Romans 9:4, “For they are Israelites, and to them belong God’s adoption [as a nation] and the glorious Presence (Shekinah). With them were the special covenants made, to them was the Law given. To them [the temple] worship was revealed and [God’s own] promises announced” AMP; Romans 11:2, “No, god has not rejected and disowned His people [whose destiny] He had marked out and appointed and foreknown from the beginning. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?” AMP; Romans 11:29, “For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call” AMP).
The Abrahamic Covenant Is Forever Established and All other Bible Promises Are Based On This One!
