“CHOSEN” = “Eklektos”(ek-lek-toss) Strongs #1588: Compare To: “Eclectic” (Greek Origin “Eklektikos”, from “Eklegein” Which Literally Means “To Pick Out”).
It Derives From “Ek” Which Means “Out Of”, and “Lego” Which Means “To Pick or Gather”.
The Word Therefore Designates One Picked Out From Among the Larger Group For Special Service or Privileges.
It Also Describes Christ as the Chosen Messiah of God (Luke 23:35, “Now the people stood by [calmly and leisurely] watching; but the rulers scoffed and sneered (turned up their noses) at Him, saying, He rescued others [from death]; let Him now rescue Himself, if He is the Christ (the Messiah) of God, His CHOSEN One!” AMP)
Angels as Messengers From Heaven (1 Timothy 5:21, “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the CHOSEN angels that you guard and keep [these rules] without personal prejudice or favor, doing nothing from partiality” AMP)
Believers as Recipients of God’s Favor (Matthew 24:22, “And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would endure and survive, but for the sake of the elect (GOD’S CHOSEN ONES) those days will be shortened; Romans 8:33, “Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect [when it is] God Who justifies [that is, Who puts us in right relation to Himself? Who shall come forward and accuse or impeach those whom God has chosen? Will God, Who acquits us?]” AMP; Colossians 3:12, “Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own CHOSEN ones (HIS OWN PICKED REPRESENTATIVES), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper” AMP).
